House of Spiders - Wolf Spider

Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae, from the Ancient Greek word "λύκος" meaning "wolf". They are robust and agile hunters with excellent eyesight. They live mostly solitary and hunt alone. Some are opportunistic hunters pouncing upon prey as they find it or even chasing it over short distances. Some will wait for passing prey in or near the mouth of a burrow.

Wolf spiders resemble Nursery web spiders (familyPisauridae), but wolf spiders carry their egg sacs by attaching them to their spinnerets (Pisauridae carry their egg sacs with their chelicerae and pedipalps). Two of the Wolf spider's eight eyes are large and prominent, which distinguishes them from the Nursery web spiders whose eyes are all of approximately equal size. This can also help distinguish them fromgrass spiders.- wikipedia.

Hunting spiders include water spiders, wolf spiders, wandering spiders,  nursery-web spiders, hunstman spiders and lynx piders.

House of Robberflies

Robber flies belong to the family Asilidae. They are also known as assassin flies. These insects are reddish brown and have hair all over their body. Most species of robber fly have a long abdomen. Mostly found in countries with a warm climate, these insects are normally active on warm and sunny days.

Location : Taman Negara Pulau Pinang, Malaysia - Northern Region

> Huge compound eyes provide the robber fly with the excellent vision it needs to be an effective predator. Long bristles on the face help to protect the robber fly's face when it attacks its prey.

> Robber flies attack insects such as butterflies, dragonflies, bees and wasps. They hold their prey with their front limbs and then inject saliva into it. This saliva paralyzes and partly digest the victim.

Giant robber flies are up to 4cm in length and are found in North America.

DID YOU KNOW??? After mating, the female robber fly scatters her eggs on the ground. Some species also lay eggs in plants. These eggs are long in shape, while the eggs laid on the ground are round.
