House of The Ladybird Beetles - Ladybugs

LadyBird Beetles

Ladybird beetles or ladybugs are found in temperate and tropical regions all over the world. When disturbed, ladybirds secrete a foul-smelling fluid, which causes a stain. This is called reflex-bleeding.

The number of sports on a ladybird differs from species to species.

These insects are easily mistaken for leaf beetles because of their similar colouring and spots.

Brightly coloured beetles, ladybirds have round bodies and hard wing cases, called elytra.

House of Insects - Shiny Metallic Colours Insects

Shiny Metallic Colours Insects

Long-legged flies are shiny metallic green flies slightly smaller and more slender bodied than a regular house fly.

Robber Flies attack insects such as butterflies, dragonflies, bees, and wasps. They hold their prey front limbs and then inject saliva into it. This saliva paralyzes and partly digest the victim.

Metallic Moth ( Saptha Beryllitis )

Jewel Beetles

Tiger Beetles taste awful and predators avoid eating them.

Frog Legged Beetles - This is the frog-legged leaf beetle (Sagra buqueti), and there's a good chance those gigantic gams are his weapons.

Found in the jungles of Southeast Asia, this brightly coloured, iridescent species can grow up to 5 cm long. Unlike its namesake, it doesn't use its hind legs for jumping, instead they're used to cling onto stems and foliage while it eats, its grip aided by scores of tiny hair follicles that cover the surface of the leg. But there could be more to those legs than just grip, because look at the difference between the males and females.

House of Damselflies

Damselflies belong to the order Odonata and suborder Zygopetra. They have long, slender bodies and four long wings. They are weak fliers and timid predators. These insects are beautiful, slender cousins of dragonflies but are not as ferocious. They have compound eyes and excellent eyesight.

Location : Perak Darul Ridzuan, Malaysia- Northern Region

Did you know??? Damselflies capture their prey with the help of their legs, folding them like a basket to form a trap. Once the insect trapped it is transferred to the damselfly's mouth. Their legs are not suited to walking.

Mosquitoes, midges, gnats and small water insects are preffered food of damselflies.

Makes and females mate duri g flight or over shallow water. While mating, a male carries a female around to allow her to collect sperm from the front of his abdomen. After mating, females deposit their eggs in around water.
